The opening weekend of the Bulldogs’ season got off to a rough start with a pair of losses to the Mustangs in Peoria. Chicago would strike first with a Luke Morin goal on the power play at 4:44 of the first period, but it would be all Peoria after that. The Mustangs scored nine unanswered goals to beat the Bulldogs 9-1. Peoria’s Levi Armstrong and Brennan Anderson scored hat tricks. Chance Homerin and Anderson finished with four points in the game.
Sunday afternoon wouldn’t be much easier for the Bulldogs as the Mustangs scored the only goal of the first period, three in the second and two more in the third to jump out to a 6-0 lead. Chicago got on the board later in the game when Matt Kostopoulos scored shorthanded at 8:07. Matt Blaszkiewicz would score with 21 seconds left, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Bulldogs dropped both games to Peoria, losing 6-2 on Sunday.
The Bulldogs will be on the road again next weekend for a pair of games against the Battle Creek Revolution. Battle Creek is 0-1 coming off of a 4-1 loss to the Michigan Mountain Cats.
