Despite losing both games on the road to Illiana last weekend, the Bulldogs were still able to finish third in the Great Lakes Division and open the playoffs with a home series.
After a slow start to the season, the Bulldogs finished 26-21-3. They caught fire right after the Holidays, going winning seven of the first eight games of 2013. Joseph Close and Matt Kostopoulos were runners up for the division MVP award and Close was named a Great Lakes All-Star. Close appeared in all 50 regular season games and led the division with 38. His 75 points were second only to Brendan Lewis of Fort Wayne, who had 79. Matt Kostopoulos finished third in assists with 43 and sixth in points with 67 in 42 games. Adam Marshall received the Bulldogs’ Development Award.
The Bulldogs will host the Tri City Icehawks in a best of three series at the Canlan Ice Sports Arena in Romeoville with Game 1 taking place at 8 p.m. on Friday. Game 2 faces off at 5:30 Saturday and if necessary, Game 3 would happen at noon on Sunday.
The Bulldogs and Icehawks met for six games during the regular season. Tri City won their home series with a sweep in late September but the Bulldogs returned the favor, sweeping the Icehawks at Canlan at the end of January.
