Bulldogs take split against Breezy Point

The Bulldogs split a two-game set with Breezy Point, losing Saturday but holding off the North Stars on Sunday.

Breezy Point 4 @ Chicago 2 – The Breezy Point North Stars and the Chicago Junior Bulldogs were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Breezy Point made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Benny Smieja's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Ryan Mezera had a great game for the North Stars, netting two goals. Mezera's tallies came on the power play at 6:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Breezy Point and 19:29 into the third to make the score 4-2 Breezy Point. Nolan Magsamen also scored for Breezy Point. More assists for Breezy Point came via Linder Kenyon, Brooke Evans, Ryan Herbert, and Tyler Larwood, who each chipped in one. Chicago was helped by Ryan Maksimovic, who finished with one goal. Maksimovic scored 19:39 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Toms Taurins provided the assist. Chicago also got a goal from Scott Coash Jr as well. In addition, Chicago received assists from Michael Howard, Henry Hearon, and Mike Holmes, who contributed one each. The North Stars' Matt Milendorf stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced.

Breezy Point 1 @ Chicago 2 – The Breezy Point North Stars tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Chicago Junior Bulldogs held on for a 2-1 victory. Chicago made the score 2-0 on a goal by Ryan Maksimovic at 9:03 in the third period, and Breezy Point got as close as 2-1 when Brooke Evans scored 16:58 into the third period. The North Stars were stymied by the Junior Bulldogs' netminder Troy Pierce, who stopped 47 shots during the victory. The solid play of Pierce will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.73. Chicago additionally got points from Toms Taurins, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Chicago came via Tyler Seltenriech, Michael Howard, and Matthew Adams, who contributed one each. In addition, Breezy Point received assists from Jack Anderholm and Ryan Herbert, who each chipped in one.

The Bulldogs play the team's final game of the 2014-15 season on Friday night versus Peoria at Canlan Ice Sports Romeoville. The Bulldogs were eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday when Peoria defeated Minnesota.
