After a rough go at the MnJHL’s Minnesota Showcase in Rochester and a long break, the Chicago Bulldogs return to the ice on Friday night against first place Wisconsin. The Rampage visit Chicago with an eight-point edge in the standings over the second-place Bulldogs. The two games this weekend will be key in the beginning of the unofficial “second half” of the season.
After the Rampage leave, the Fort Wayne Federals (Jan. 11-13) and Tri City Icehawks (Jan. 25-27) come to town for three-game series in the following weekends. The Bulldogs will go for a season-series victory against the Feds after taking two of three in the first weekend of December in Fort Wayne. The Bulldogs suffered a sweep on the road at the hands of the Icehawks in late September and will look for redemption and spacing in the GL Division, as Tri City currently trails the Bulldogs by a single point.
Although the Bulldogs ended 2012 on a losing streak, a streak the team would like to see continue is the scoring run Adamson Thoma has enjoyed. Thoma has a goal in eight straight games and a point in 10 straight. He has 30 points in 26 games this season.
Joey Close will also look to continue is scoring ways as he maintains the GL Division lead in goals with 27. His 54 points are also most in the GL Division, with Matt Kostopoulos ranked third with 51 points.
The action against the Rampage starts Friday at 8 p.m. at Canlan Ice Sports Arena in Romeoville. Sunday’s puck drop is at noon.
