The Chicago Hitmen continued their hot start pushing the season opening winning streak to 8 games with a pair of victories over the Mountain Cats this weekend. The perfect start has the Hitmen sitting atop the GLJHL standings four points ahead of Wisconsin who is also undefeated.

Saturday’s game (box score) saw the Hitmen fall behind the Mountain Cats after surrendering a pair of power play goals. Leading scorer Nick Gnagni however pulled the Hitmen with in one just 14 seconds before the first intermission when he lifted a rebound over Cat’s goalie Anthony Munoz. Michael Lozano scored in the second to pull the Hitmen even, and the teams traded goals in the third minute of the third period keeping the score tied at 3. Daniel Doyle who already had a pair of assists netted the game winner for the Hitmen at the 12:34 mark of the third.

Sunday (box score) again saw the Hitmen off to a slow start this time falling behind 3-0 in the first. However, the Hitmen would once again come storming back on the Mountain Cats rattling off five consecutive goals; four in the second period and one just thirty-eight seconds into the third. The Cats tried to claw their way back into the game but the Hitmen answered both Mountain Cats goals in the period with a goal of their own within one minute and fifteen seconds. Once again the high point man for the Hitmen also netted the game winner, this time it was Benjamin Boukal who had four points (2,2) on the afternoon.

Next weekend the Hitmen will host the St. Louis Frontenacs for a three game set at the Internation Ice Centre in Romeoville, IL. The Frontenacs come in currently holding third place with a record of 5-2-0. Friday night’s game starts at 8:00 P.M., Saturday at 7:00 P.M., and Sunday at 12:00 P.M.; tickets are available at the IIC box office.
